This episode features the amazing and outspoken Hayley Ricketson (IG: @whatrickowrote). This segment expounds on selected poetry by featured guests, extending a warm welcome to Hayley.
Hayley is a playwright, poet, procrastinator and public servant. Hayley's writing encompasses political issues, humour and sometimes an expression of anger towards social injustices but she is always up for a friendly chat.
Hayley was a Slam finalist in London and Melbourne and is fortunate to be part of the current 'Slamalamadingdong' team in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia). Hayley has previously staged theatre plays in London and Melbourne and would love the opportunity to do it again because 'theatre is great'.
Besides a love of cats and taramasalata dip, Hayley is a big fan of creative expression; she loves words, stories and watching people express themselves creatively in public, - spoken word poetry events are kind of a no-brainer for her. Hayley is highly skilled at overthinking and dancing while seated when trying to write and/or work. Hayley writes with the intention of being honest and thoughtful.
If you are unfamiliar with Hayley’s work, check out her page on Instagram (@whatrickowrote) or if in Melbourne, catch at live gigs, you will not be disappointed.
Sincere appreciation and humble thanks to Hayley for featuring on the show. Extending appreciation to everyone in the audience and those who watch the recording, without your support there is no show.

The stage/pen name “Jack Val Trades” is inspired by the idea that, as a creative being, this artist is a Jack of all trades… master of some. The writer within is Jeremy Hickson. Jeremy’s work reaches at once backwards as roots, and forwards as canopy. It ranges from the metaphysical to the very physical; diversity rings out — an anthem.
Jeremy holds a BA from Rutgers University, where he double majored in English and Sociology.
In many of Jeremy’s poems, glimpses of the old masters can be gleaned, as well as influences from his present day poetic peers. A heartfelt thank you to all who hold space, and who carry a torch to contrast the darkness.
